God's Glory in Daily Living

In Matthew 16 the Pharisees & Sadducees come and ask Jesus to show them a sign from heaven. Now, at first glance this looks like a good thing: them coming to Jesus. It is good. Jesus invites us to come to Him, He desires that people would come to Him, receive from Him and know Him as Life.

The problem was that they came to Jesus in order to test Him. When we come to Jesus the heart attitude with which we approach Him is of utmost importance. We need to learn to approach Him amidst the tension of humility & confidence. Humility, as we recognize who we are in light of who He is and confidently, as we recognize what He has done for us in the complete work of His life, death and resurrection. In response to the Pharisees & Sadducees request for a sign from heaven Jesus says (in vs.4) "an evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign from heaven and a sign will not be given it except the sign of Jonah. And He left them and went away." In the next chapter, Matthew 17, Jesus, Peter, James & John, head up the mountain and Jesus is transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light, and Moses & Elijah appeared to them and wastalking with Jesus. There seems to be a big contrast here from the start of Matthew 16 to the start of Matthew 17. One group of people ask for a sign and get rebuked.

Another group doesn't ask for anything and see God's glory in such an incredible way.

The thing I want us to see is this: The disciples were not perfect people, they didn't always understand Jesus, and sometimes they got in the way. But, they made it their habit to be with Him and because of this they saw His glory. Matthew 5:8 says "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God". Those whose heart is pure (not perfect hearts but pure in the sense of having a singular focus, continually being in fellowship with Jesus, entrusting everything to Him) will see God. They will see God's glory, God's work in their daily living and it will satisfy them, and influence those around them.

Let's not be people that merely come to Jesus with the big things, or the crisis, or to test Him. But like the disciples let's make it our habit to be where He is, so that we can learn the lesson God gave those disciples as Jesus was transfigured before them and "Listen to Him".

Bible School

Bible School Baptism 2018

The second year students completed their Bible School training with a week-long field trip to the Saanich Peninsula on Vancouver Island. Each one presented their summary of all that they learned over the course of the year, reflecting on each element of the Bible School training and acknowledging how God had revealed Himself to them. Hearing these summaries is an incredible privilege as its the testimony of the transforming work that only God can do and will continue to do in each of their lives.

Bible School Commencement Ceremony 2018

This past week the Bible School came to a close. Our hearts are filled with gratitude and praise to the Lord Jesus Christ for all that He has done in the hearts, minds and lives of this year's Bible School class. About 100 guests of family & friends joined us (students & staff) in celebration of the completion of the 2017/18 Bible School year with a baptism, ceremony and banquet.

As a staff body, it is our joy and privilege to have been a part of the training of these men & women for full time Christian service regardless of occupation. We entrust each one to the Lord Jesus as we've sought to do all year and we will continue to uphold them in prayer in the days, weeks, months and years ahead as they scatter around the globe.

"In the same way & by the same means that you received Christ Jesus your Lord, in that same way & by that same means walk on in Him" Col. 2:6

Outdoor Education

Outdoor Education Programme

After a weekend of preparations by being in the Word together, training of the new group of volunteers (many stayed on from Bible School), and enjoying fellowship, the first Outdoor Education group has arrived. Over the next two months approximately 2000 guests, with the majority being school aged kids and their chaperones, will come to have a tonne of fun learning new things, making friends and soaking up the natural beauty and peaceful surroundings of Capernwray Harbour. Each individual will be encouraged to step out of their "comfort zone" and to engage in experiences that will impact perspective and lend to beneficial responses in real life contexts.
