Speaker

Stephen Thiessen

As a young man, Stephen trained in Capernwray Bible School for 2 years seeking to discover the “truth” -Jesus Christ Himself; the God of the Bible and of Eternity.  This began a life changing journey that would see him learn, grow and also serve effectively in the Torchbearer ministry in Canada for nearly 20 years.

Growing from student to General Maintenance Assistant to a Centre Director in Quebec; a Resident Lecturer – he simply trusted in the Lord however big the task.  The truth that “God will be faithful to equip him for whatever task and situation into which he would be sent by God is a never ending lesson of life!

God continues to effectively use, equip, and keep Stephen who now lives on a small family farm on Vancouver Island with his wife and five children, ministering also as Pastor of Gabriola Fellowship Church on Gabriola Island.  This journey continues as a simple servant seeing Gods faithfulness bring hope to the hopeless, healing to the sick and wholeness to broken lives as He opens God’s Word.

Topic

Gospel of John

More often than not, prayers to God are filled with an unending list of needs. I long for God’s help in the midst of my daily difficulties, and I often want Him to rescue me from my challenging circumstances.

As we see Jesus meet people amidst their needs in the Gospel of John, we start to realize that Jesus was not interested in simply ‘fixing’ their physical problems but rather He was showing them their spiritual need and sufficiency through Him ini being victorious right then and there.

In studying John’s Gospel we will find great encouragement seeing how Jesus meets us in our greatest time of need, and rather than remove the obstacles, how He wants to lead us to the LIFE that overcomes them.

John 16:33 – “I have told you these things, so that in ME you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble. But take heart!  I have overcome the world.”
