Capernwray Harbour

Acknowledging God

I had the pleasure of attending Ladies’ Conference here at Capernwray Harbour in the Spring. One of the points that our speaker shared about was guidance. We want to know God’s ways, but how do we go about it? Proverbs 3:5-8 sheds light on this:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body and refreshment to your bones.”

So here it is:

1.    First of all, in all my ways I need to acknowledge Him.

2.    Then He will make my paths straight (NASB) (or direct my path (NIV) )

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the word acknowledge as: “to recognize the rights, authority, or status of “

If I desire for God to guide me, I first need to recognize His rights, authority and status in my life. What does that look like?

I need to acknowledge that He exists. “Yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.“ 1 Corinthians 8:6

It sounds so obvious, but if I don’t even believe there is a God, then it makes no sense to be asking Him for help or guidance.

I need to acknowledge that He has all authority over my life. “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.“ James 4:7

Acknowledging God

I need to lay aside my preferences and surrender to Him, letting Him transform me and remembering that the good works in me are all from Him, by Him and for His glory.

I need to acknowledge His status in my life, He wants to be pre-eminent.

The word pre-eminence is the Greek word proteuo, which means “to be first in rank or influence".

“He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.“ Colossians 1:1

This status means that I should nurture my relationship with Him, prioritize time with Him, talk to Him, listen to Him, get to know Him better and better. I want to spend time reading God’s Word, in order to know His character, His thoughts, who He is and what He desires. What God thinks should be what I care about most.

God made us. He knows us inside & out… but how well do we know Him? As we become men and women who seek after God’s heart, as we learn how to honour Him and acknowledge Him, God will enlighten us about who He is, His character, His ways. God goes before us, all we have to do is to follow Him and He lead us on the path of righteousness! “But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines brighter and brighter until the full day." Proverbs 4:18

Summer Happenings

Early Morning Kayaking

As a staff team we've thoroughly enjoyed witnessing guests come and partake in the Bible teaching and activities offered during the last five weeks of Holiday Bible Weeks. Its a pleasure to be part of the Lord Jesus' ministry to families, individuals and couples as they've set aside their vacation time to be refreshed & renewed by the Holy Spirit. The Holiday Bible Weeks really are a holiday like no other! There are two more weeks as well as the Men's Conference coming up this month!

Conference Groups & Retreats

This past weekend we had an overflowing property of a church group from Victoria BC and then through the week a youth group from Washington USA who although planned most of their own activities & schedule, we facilitated their programmes with a mix of using a variety of what the property has to offer with The Screamer, Climbing Tower, Waterfront, etc. Of course, having the meals and accommodations prepared for these types of groups takes a lot off the minds of the leaders.

Please let us know if we can help you to host a group of your own!

Mid Summer Breakaway

This year's Mid Summer Breakaway weekend, which is geared towards Teens and their Youth Leaders, was exceptional. The Lord Jesus seemed to allow us to see some of the fruit from the weekend ministry immediately but we know that His ministry towards those teens & leaders doesn't end when they leave this property, nor did it begin when they came. This year's focus of Mid Summer Breakaway was on training the youth leaders on how to disciple the young people in their influence to disciple others. The teens that attended were challenged in the classroom by Zane Black's teaching from the Life of Christ and in the activities. Don't miss out next year!

Praise & Prayer

Bible Teaching for All Ages

* Praise the Lord for the spring of water that came forth during the summer drought! We are able to pump it into the pond at about 1 litre every minute!

* Praise God for those volunteers who are ministering to the youth during the Holiday Bible Weeks kids ministry.

* Pray for more students to join us for this fall's Bible School who desire to come to discover Christ as Life! We praise God for those He's already sending.

* Pray for Ralf & Ruth Kempe & family as they finish their preparations to leave Capernwray Harbour at the end of the month. We are thankful that they aren't moving very far away and know that they're going because God has sent them.

* Praise God for the incredible interest in the Egypt to Israel Trip in March 2019.
