Psalm 27

David writes. "The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the defence of my life whom shall I dread?"

We get the sense that David here is pondering, he is considering and meditating, on God. As we read on we see that he is thinking with great clarity about who God is.

He says "The LORD is my light", He brings clarity to my life, He guides me, He shows me the way, He gives me confidence.

"The LORD is my salvation"; David knew his share of trials in life, ranging from troubles with the enemy, problems with his family, and consequences for his own sin and yet he says "The Lord is my salvation", He himself is my Rescue. He has not been spared from all difficulties, but regardless of circumstance God is his salvation, and the defender of his life.

David acknowledges who God is, considers who God is, and then he responds. He asks himself the question: in light of who my God is, whom shall I fear? Whom shall I dread?

The answer to these questions is no one! As God's people we can expect to know confidence in Life, not because of an absence of trials, but because of the presence of God. I think of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, men who faced what looked like certain death, and yet in the face of that, along with David could say "The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the defence of my life; Whom shall I dread?"

Bible School

With gratitude to the Lord Jesus and anticipation for all He will do we welcomed 73 students to the property for Bible School 2017/18.

An orientation weekend packed full of Bible Teaching, Practical instruction and recreational activities the student body has been introduced to the object of focus for the next eight months of training while here at Capernwray Harbour. All training points to the One True God whom deserves our full focus and attention in all areas of life. The One who creates life and sustains life all for His good purpose. What a joy it is to be part of the transforming work that only He can do this year. Pray that each one will maintain their focus on Jesus Christ in the weeks ahead.

Each student has the opportunity to go on an out trip during the first two weekends of Bible School. These Venture weekends consist of 10-15 student/staff groups for three main purposes:

Primarily, through this context we, as a Staff Team, believe that Jesus Christ will be acknowledged & responded to in faith & obedience as He is revealed in creation, in the written Word and in fellowship & relationship with one another.

Secondly, the Venture trips provide an excellent opportunity for individuals to discover unity in Christ and begin to appreciate the promised harmony in Him.

Thirdly, they offer the incredible invitation to explore some of the world's most beautiful land and seascapes. From the mountaintops to the caverns to the open sea!

This year's venture weekends proved once again to play a vital role in the beginning of the Bible School year as the student body went out in these smaller groups. Those that remained behind enjoyed all that the Capernwray Harbour property had to offer including ski boat activities, games nights & campfires. Many memories were made but more importantly the Lord Jesus Christ is at work in the hearts and minds of each one.

Staff Team

Thank you to those who prayed for the Staff Team over our week of Staff Conference in early September. It was a wonderful time of fellowship together as we refocused our minds and hearts on our Lord Jesus who is available to each one of us at every moment of every day. We also welcomed three new staff members, all of which have attended two years of Bible School training and have served as Support Staff Volunteers at various times and in differing capacitites.

Meet Abbigail Mackay:

After two years of Bible School with us she returned to her home in Ontario to put feet and hands to all that she learned in the classroom to care for those in an elderly care home facility. The practical training she received is an asset in her new role as Staff & Housekeeping Support. Abbigail's saracastic humour and genuine love for others is a blessing to our Staff Team.

Meet Kathleen Preston:

Kathleen grew up in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. An avid hiker & explorer, Kathleen is most comfortable in the outdoors and when involved in a variety of creative pursuits. Her keen desire for people to come to know Christ Jesus in a real and personal way is evident as she interacts with students and guests in the areas of Student Ministries & Conferencing.

Meet Michael Needham:

Attending Holiday Bible Weeks growing up and then coming for two years of Bible School, we are excited to have Michael, with his culinary experience, serving in the Kitchen. Michael’s open, kind and friendly manner quickly puts people at ease and allows him to point them to the Lord Jesus. From Buckley, Washington, USA, Michael has easily made the transition to West Coast living and living amongst Canadians!
