What's a Venture?

During the first three weekends of Bible School, a great degree of variety of optional camping & recreational opportunities are offered to students at a reasonable cost.

The intent of the ventures is three fold:

1.The first priority is that Jesus Christ be acknowledged and responded to in faith and obedience as He is revealed in creation, in the written Word and fellowship and relationship with one another.

2. Secondly, the Venture trips provide an excellent opportunity to get to know fellow students, and enter into "life in the body" in the context of Bible School at Capernwray. Meaningful relationships are formed as individuals discover unity in Christ and begin to appreciate the promised harmony in Him.

3. Thirdly, these trips offer the incredible invitation to explore some of the world's most beautiful land and seascapes. British Columbia and particularily Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands are unparalleled in the degree of ecological variety and diversity. From the mountaintops to the rain forests to the open sea, there is something for everyone!

Venture trips vary in intensity from rigorous to purely relaxational. Prices include transportation, food, equipment, and instructor/guides; all you may need to bring (or borrow) is a backpack, sleeping bag and personal items. Devotionals and discussions will be led each day by your guide for the purpose of "Directing your heart toward Jesus"...the focal point of the Bible School year! Each student will have the opportunity to choose one of these weekend trips at Registration. First come first serve!

Trip Perspectives / Options:

Each trip has a difficulty code rating from 1 to 10:
1 = Taking a hot bubble bath.
10 = Climbing vertical rock faces in a blinding snowstorm while wearing a heavy pack, wet clothes and someone else's boots!
 

LONG BEACH
Canada's extreme West Coast awaits you. Here you will have the opportunity to enjoy board and body surfing, walks through nature, the town of Tofino, whale watching (optional) and just hanging out.

OCEAN KAYAKING
Paddle up to 100 km over 3 days through these rare gems of the Pacific known internationally as "The Gulf Islands". See sights and wildlife most people could only dream of while paddling in a sturdy double sea kayak. Camp at spots like "Pirates Cove" and "Blackberry Point". (Degree of difficulty varies with weather & ocean conditions.)

MT WASHINGTON TREK & VEG
Nothing too strenuous...stay in a comfortable mountainside condo, which you will use as a base from which day treks will be taken. Later, graduate to Forbidden Plateau and Paradise Meadows where pristine mountain lakes make for an unforgettable scenic walking tour. In the evening, hang out back at the condo. Enjoy group meals and activities with newly made friends...the other students!

MT ALBERT EDWARD
If you don't mind a good sweat, this backpacking expedition will lead you across rock and ice fields to the summit of Strathcona Park. Before the rigorous final ascent, camp by a lake and...check out the view! (Of course, not for the faint of heart!)

HORNE LAKE CAVES
Slip into the underground world of Vancouver Island's premier cave network. Waterfalls, stalagmites and bats await you under the surface. Camp in authentic Tipis on the shores of the Pacific Ocean and enjoy a caving adventure!

CARMANAH PACIFIC
Within view of the West Coast, you will backpack through a dense rain forest of enormous old growth Sitka Spruce, camp by a backwoods stream and perhaps see salmon spawning in the Nitnat river on the way home.

GULF ISLAND SAILING
Navigate the Gulf Islands under 'wind' power aboard the ship "A Fine Madness". Disembark and explore solitary coves and coastline in sea kayaks. A once in a lifetime West Coast adventure.

BUNGY JUMPING
Just 1 hour from Capernwray is the first licensed Bungy Bridge in North America. Camping, BBQs, beach volleyball, Bungy Jumping and The Ultimate Swing await you! Includes 2 'Rushes'...in a pristine setting second to none. Go for it!
