Asia Practicum Programme: Where You Will Go

Interns serving in the Programme begin their trip with a time of orientation hosted at Torchbearers Harvest Haven, Ipoh, Malaysia.

From there the teams are divided and the interns are sent to their pre selected location: Bangalore, India serving at Green Valley Bible Centre; Manila, Philippines serving at the Torchbearers Student Centre; and Jakarta Indonesia serving at Pondek Kepenrey.

In many cases, interns who stay on for the Full Year Programme are able to serve in two locations. Lord willing, there will be future openings in North India, China, as well as in Japan.

Asia Practicum Options

Short term ministry trips of 3 or 7 months begin in September or January. The two week orientation is held from mid September to early October and again in early January to the end of the month; after which time interns serve at the various centers for their stay duration.

Three options are given to interns for when they join the teams: the Full Year Programme from mid September to the end of April; the Fall/Winter Programme from mid September to Christmas break; and the Winter/Spring Programme from early January to the end of April.

Interns in the Practicum Programme are by no means a typical "book on desk" student. God is our teacher, His word our textbook and the culture our classroom - truly a unique opportunity to join the ministry of Torchbearers and be "staff" for a term.

Through teaching Bible and Values classes, English, Music, and Computer courses, leading devotions and evangelistic outreaches, as well as putting their hands to many practical works such as farming, landscaping and painting, interns are sure to be deeply impacted, challenged, and grow in dependency on Christ.

Asia Practicum Programme: Is It for Me?

Ideally this Programme is for students who have completed a year or two of Bible training at any one of the Torchbearer Centers, although some exceptions may be made.

A belief in Christ and a foundational understanding of the Christian Life is essential in order to go beyond the so called Christian culture of the West to serve God's people and share Christ in some of the most compelling and spiritually thirsty nations of Southeast Asia.
